Unexpected Visitor
The first thing I remember was awakening from my slumber. I was in my small red recliner, right next to my grandfather's big blue one. I see the TV has a movie on, one I don't remember starting. I must have dozed off while it played. But wait, where's Grampa? Why are all the lights off? What is happening right now? Alright, I've been prepared for this, I can handle it. Maybe if I call out his name...
Grampa!...
No answer.
Grampa!!...
Still nothing.
GRAMPAAAAA!!!...
Silence, complete and utter silence.
Alright, next plan, call someone. Let's trudge up that big spiral staircase that made the house seem like an old castle. DANG IT! We don't have a house phone anymore, when did that happen? Wait, there on the kitchen island, is that Nana's phone? Alright, perfect, now all I have to do is call. Uhh, why is the microwave going too? That's weird. Anyways... Dial the number, come on, just dial it... No, that's the wrong one, try again. NO, why aren't my fingers working? Why is it when I press the 5 button, it enters 3?
Wait, speed dial, does this one have it? YES! Haha, here we go, can't mess this up. Alright, number two is mommy, maybe she knows something that happened. Trill, Trill, Trill. Come on, voicemail?? This is ridiculous. Grampa always picks up, let's try him on number one. Trill, Trill, Trill. What?! The number has been disconnected?!?! Fine, I got nothing else, let's just call out again, no more messing around. They wouldn't have left without me.
Nanaaa? Grampaaa? Mommyyy?...
I can't believe it, I really am alone. I fell to the floor and broke down. It was a familiar place, but nobody around to help me if I needed it. I wept loudly, tears rolling down my cheeks and on the floor in the fetal position. Then, suddenly, I heard a sound I was unsure of. First, three beeps. Then, in the sound of a computer voice pausing after each word, I heard "Basement. Door. Open." Why is the door sensor going off right now? I didn't know and I didn't want to know. I was all alone, not an adult in sight, and I was scared. I froze, waiting in fright as I listened throughout the quiet house.
For a moment, it was so quiet that my ears felt like they had white noise in them. Then, I heard a thud. I knew exactly what kind too, a loud step onto the first hardwood stair coming from the basement. My heart jumped so much that I thought it would leave my chest entirely. Then another, louder this time. THUD. I didn't know what to think of this. In that moment, all I knew was that I was terrified. Then, out of all that pounding in my heart, it just stopped. The steps grew louder, closer, and quicker with each step.
THUD, THUD, THUD, THUD, THUD.
Quicker and quicker until whatever this thing was had to have been sprinting up these stairs. I watched in frightful anticipation while I waited to see what my demise was. But, before I could meet the maker of this nightmare, I woke from my true slumber. What? I clenched my chest because my heart truly was pounding. I'm okay? That wasn't real? I'm not even in Nana and Grampa's house? Phew, that had me going there for a second.
This is an older dream of mine from when I was a child. It still gives me chills to this day. They won't all be this frightening, but I knew I had to share this one first. I hope you all enjoy!
Sweet dreams,
CBar
